Carolyn Parrish elected mayor of Mississauga

Longtime councillor and MP wins crowded race

Former city councillor and federal member of Parliament Carolyn Parrish has been elected Mississauga's next mayor.

Parrish won the election Monday night, beating out eight other candidates to become the city's first female mayor. She replaces long-time mayor Hazel McCallion, who retired after 36 years in office.

Parrish has a long history of public service in Mississauga. She served as a city councillor for 12 years and as a member of Parliament for 15 years. She is known for her strong advocacy for the city and her commitment to making Mississauga a better place to live.

In her victory speech, Parrish thanked her supporters and pledged to work hard to earn the trust of all Mississaugans. She said she is committed to making Mississauga a more inclusive, prosperous, and sustainable city.

"I am honoured and humbled to have been elected mayor of Mississauga," Parrish said. "I promise to work every day to make Mississauga the best city in Canada."
