San Diego Evens Series at One Game Apiece

Higashioka's Two-Run Shot Extends Padres Lead in 2nd Inning

Kyle Higashioka's two-run home run in the bottom of the 2nd inning gave the San Diego Padres a 3-0 lead over the visiting New York Mets Friday night at Petco Park.

Higashioka, who finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBI, extended the Padres' lead to 5-0 with a solo home run in the 5th inning.

Padres starter Joe Musgrove was brilliant on the mound, allowing just one hit in seven innings while striking out seven batters.

Musgrove's Defensive Gem Helps Padres Secure Victory

In the top of the 6th inning, Musgrove made a terrific defensive play to help the Padres preserve their lead.

With runners on first and second and one out, Francisco Lindor hit a ground ball to Musgrove's left.

Musgrove fielded the ball cleanly and fired a strike to first baseman Eric Hosmer, who made the tag on Lindor for the second out of the inning.

Padres Bullpen Finishes Off Mets

The Padres bullpen finished off the Mets in the 8th and 9th innings, with Tim Hill and Craig Stammen combining to allow just one hit over the final two frames.

The Padres will try to take a second straight win from the Mets Saturday night in the second game of the series.
