Dallas Eakins Returns to Edmonton
Former Oilers Coach to Take on New Role
Full story coming soon
It's been a long time since Dallas Eakins and the Edmonton Oilers parted ways, but the former coach is now set to return to the team in a new role.
According to reports, Eakins has been hired as an assistant coach under new Oilers head coach Jay Woodcroft. This will be Eakins' second stint with the Oilers, having previously served as the team's head coach from 2013 to 2015.
Eakins was fired by the Oilers in 2015 after the team finished with a record of 24-44-14. However, he has since gone on to have success as a coach in the American Hockey League (AHL), leading the San Diego Gulls to the Calder Cup Finals in 2019.
The Oilers are hoping that Eakins' experience and success in the AHL will help them improve on their disappointing 2021-22 season, in which they finished with a record of 43-27-12 and missed the playoffs.
