California Maki A Popular Non Traditional Fusion Sushi

California Maki: A Popular Non-Traditional Fusion Sushi

Origins of the California Roll

California Maki is a type of sushi prepared with mangoes, avocados, cucumber, kanicrab sticks, then rolled with nori sheets inside out and then coated. It is believed to have originated in California in the 1970s, and has since become one of the most popular non-traditional fusion sushi recipes.

Variations and Ingredients

Also known as "California roll" or "California maki," this sushi roll is typically made with imitation crab or, less commonly, real crab. The center of the nori (seaweed) is filled with crabstick, avocado, and cucumber. Other variations may include additional ingredients such as tobiko or masago (fish eggs), as well as sauces or toppings.
