Borussia Dortmund reach Champions League semifinals with 4-2 win over Atletico Madrid

Sabitzer scores late, sets up two goals in thrilling victory

Atletico Madrid's hopes of reaching the Champions League semifinals were dashed on Tuesday as they were defeated 4-2 by Borussia Dortmund at the Signal Iduna Park.

Marcel Sabitzer was the hero for Dortmund, scoring the winning goal and setting up two others. The Austrian midfielder opened the scoring in the 29th minute before Angel Correa equalized for Atletico just before the break. Sabitzer then set up Marco Reus for Dortmund's second goal in the 54th minute, before Joao Felix pulled one back for Atletico in the 70th minute. Sabitzer then set up substitute Marius Wolf for Dortmund's fourth goal in the 84th minute, before Yannick Carrasco scored a consolation goal for Atletico in the 90th minute.

The result means that Dortmund will face either Manchester City or Real Madrid in the Champions League semifinals. The first leg of the semifinal will be played on April 24, with the second leg taking place on May 1. Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, will now turn their attention to the La Liga title race, where they are currently four points behind leaders Barcelona with five games remaining.

Here is the starting lineup for Atletico Madrid:

  • MF: Saul Niguez
